Many of us do not have a pastry bag to work with when
decorating so piping frosting can be a challenge. Making a homemade pastry bag is easy and works fairly well for piping lines on your cookies. See more detailed instructions below.
- Make up your frosting and have it tinted to whatever colors you need. Fill a sealable bag about 1/3 full, making sure to not overfill with frosting. If overfilled, the icing will ooze out the top of the bag when squeezing the frosting on the cookies, even if the bag is sealed tightly. Spoon frosting into the corner of the bag where it will be squeezed out.
- Cut the tip off the filled corner, being careful not to cut too much off otherwise the piping will get too thick.
- Squeeze the plastic bag to get the frosting to flow out the tip and begin outlining the area on the cookie where you want the piping.
- Repeat the process for each color. Be sure to use a clean bag for each color.
