Danish Pastry Apple Bars Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup shortening (or 1/2 cup Crisco & 1/2 cup margarine)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup corn flakes (crushed)
  • 8 - 10 tart apples, peeled & sliced to make 8 cup.
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg white
Directions
For dough, combine flour & salt. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Beat egg yolk in measuring cup and add enough milk to make 2/3 cup. Stir in flour. Roll 1/2 dough onto floured board in rectangular shape (size of large cookie sheet). Place in cookie sheet pan (10x15"). Sprinkle with corn flakes, apples, sugar and cinnamon. Roll out other half of dough and place on top. Seal edges. Make slits with knife and brush with beaten egg white. Bake at 375° for 40-50 minutes. Drizzle with powdered sugar frosting after baking.
