Green Tomato Chow Chow Recipe

Ingredients
  • 7 onions-4 cups
  • 1 cabbage-4 cups
  • 10 green tomatoes-4 cups
  • 12 green peppers-approx. 5 cups
  • 6 red peppers-approx. 2 cups
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 6 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mustard seed
  • 1 tablespoon celery seed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons turmeric
  • 4 cups cider vinegar
  • 2 cups water
Directions
Chop onions and cabbage and soak in water with salt overnight. Next day rinse. Boil water, vinegar and spices, then add cabbage, onions, green tomatoes, and peppers. Return to full boil. Seal in hot jars. Makes approx. 8 pints.
