Mushroom Swiss Steak Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds round or cube steak
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, quartered
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Dredge both sides of steak in flour and season with salt and pepper.

Heat skillet over medium-high heat and brown meat. Brown in batches to be sure not to over load the skillet. Place browned steaks in casserole dish.

Add onions and mushrooms to skillet, scraping browned bits from bottom. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook until vegetables are softened, approximately 5 minutes.

Add remaining ingredients and stir to combine.

Pour over steaks in casserole dish.

Cover and bake in preheated oven for 1 hour.

Serve over noodles or rice.

"I thought this was so tasty! I love swiss steak but usually have it in a tomato sauce. I served it over brown rice. Egg noodles would be even better!"
