Perfect Sour Cream Banana Bars with Browned Butter Frosting Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups bananas, mashed
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • FROSTING:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons milk

Heat oven to 375°. Grease and flour a jelly roll pan (15x10 inches).

Mix sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs in large mixer bowl on low for 1 minute.

Beat in mashed bananas and vanilla on low for 30 seconds.

Beat in flour, salt and soda on medium for 1 minute.

Stir in nuts. Spread in pan. Bake until light brown, 20-25 minutes. Cool.

For frosting, heat butter over medium heat until delicate brown color. Remove from heat. Mix in powdered sugar. Beat in vanilla and milk. Mix until smooth and spreadable.

Frost cooled bars.

"Just like banana bread, but preferable since its thinner. Great to bring to a gathering if you want to share as it makes a whole big pan. I only frosted half as I have a kids who doesn't like frosting and the unfrosted ones were good too."
