Grease and flour 2 round cake pans or a 9" x 13" pan. Measure dry ingredients into large bowl. Add soup and shortening. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Add eggs and water and beat 2 minutes more. Pour into pan(s). Bake 35-40 minutes; cool in pan 10 minutes before removing. When thoroughly cool, frost if desired with a cream cheese frosting.
Note: This may be baked in a well-greased and floured Bundt pan for 50-60 minutes. Cool in pan for 15 minutes before removing. Dust with powdered sugar.
