Ingredients
  • 1 package yellow cake mix
  • 1 package instant vanilla pudding
  • 1 package instant butterscotch pudding
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup apple sauce (or vegetable oil if apple sauce is not available)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

  • Preheat oven to 350° F.
  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together the yellow cake mix, butterscotch pudding mix, and the vanilla pudding mix. Add the eggs, oil, apple sauce, and water. Mix until well blended.
  • In a separate bowl, stir together brown sugar and cinnamon. If desired, add chopped nuts to this brown sugar mixture.
  • Pour half of the batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Sprinkle half of the brown sugar mixture over the batter.
  • Cover with remaining batter and spread evenly.
  • Sprinkle with remaining brown sugar mixture (adjust to desired amount of topping).
  • Bake for 20 minutes in preheated 350ºF. oven.
  • Turn oven down to 325°F and bake for an additional 35 minutes. Test for doneness by inserting toothpick into center of cake. When the cake is done, the toothpick will be clean when removed.
