Indian Fry Bread Tacos Recipe

A summer fair treat can now be made anytime of year in your own house. So easy to fry up and the leftover bread, if there is any, can be sprinkled with cinnamon sugar to make dessert!

Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 2 cups lettuce, shredded
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 1/2 cup tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • FRY BREAD:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • vegetable oil

In a skillet, brown ground beef until no longer pink; drain. Add taco seasoning and water according to package directions.

Prepare toppings for tacos.

For fry bread, sift flour, backing powder and salt. Combine milk with dry ingredients. Knead well with extra flour.

Divide into 6 portions. Roll 1/8" thick rounds.

Fry in 1/4" hot oil, turning so that each side cooks. Bread will puff out.

Top each fry bread with meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream.

"Delicious! Just like the fair. Be sure to roll them pretty thin because they do puff up quite a bit. And we did have 2 leftover and topped them with cinnamon sugar - just like an elephant ear at the fair!"
