Country Barbecue Basted Chicken Recipe

Basted with barbecue sauce throughout the cooking time provides this grilled chicken with great barbecued flavor. Basting the chicken with barbecue sauce also helps keep the chicken moist.

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup Open Pit Barbecue Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 4 pounds chicken - cut into pieces
Directions
  • Combine all ingredients in small saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
  • Bring the sauce to a boil and then turn down the heat so sauce is at a simmer. Simmer until the barbecue sauce thickens slightly.
  • Preheat the grill on high.
  • Coat the pieces of chicken with oil and then place on the preheated grill.
  • Baste the top side of the chicken, cover the grill, and turn down to medium.
  • Turn the chicken about every 5 to 6 minutes and baste the top with sauce each time.
  • Continue to cook, turn, and baste every 5 to 6 minutes until the chicken is done.
  • This recipe makes about 1 cup, enough for 3 to 4 lbs. of cut up chicken.

"This was pretty good barbecued chicken. I liked that it was basted with the barbecue sauce throughout the grilling time. I think I should have simmered the sauce longer to thicken it more because I left it on low on the burner while I was grilling and by the end of grilling it had thickened to the way I thought it should be."
