A Swiss bread loaf that is an adaptation of German and French white breads. Bangeli bread has a long baguette shape, which often has several horizontal slashes across the top. The bread features a thick crust and a chewy interior similar to French bread. It is used much the same as similar white breads of German or French origin: as a sandwich bread when thinly sliced; as a bread used for toasting, topped with preserves or jellies; as a bread served with cheese and wine; and as a crusty bread that can be spread with butter or dipped in extra virgin olive oil and served as an accompaniment to a meal. |
