| A serving utensil that generally consists of two or three round or square plates that are vertically positioned an equal distance apart to provide multiple layers for presenting and holding small, bite-sized portions of food. This serving device may have a larger plate at the bottom with several smaller sized plates that decrease in size as they rise to the top level. The plates may be secured with a shaft going through the center of the plate, so each plate rests on one level of the vertical shaft. Or, some multi-tiered servers have a wire or wooden formed holding device that allows the plates to be placed into a "housing" or structure that serves as the frame for keeping the plates positioned above each other. Appetizers, cookies, fruits, cheese, and crackers are commonly served in this manner. |
