 Capelin Caviar |
|
A very small and slender fish found mainly in the ocean waters of the Artic, Iceland, Northwestern U.S., and Scandinavia. With a length of 7 inches or less, the Capelin is very similar to the smelt in shape and appearance. It has an olive green coloring that is surrounded by a silvery-surfaced skin covering a meaty firm flesh. Capelin is typically served baked or fried. It is also commonly dried and salt cured to be served as an appetizer, like a sardine. The roe from the Capelin is commercially harvested to be processed into caviar. Capelin may also be referred to as Lodde or Caplin. |
