An Asian inspired utensil that is made of thin strips of bamboo tied together with twine to create a flexible mat to be used for forming rolls of sushi evenly. The rolling mats are generally 24 cm x 24 cm (91/2 inches x 91/2 inches) in size. The layers of ingredients for the sushi rolls, such as rice and seaweed, are initially placed on the mat. The mat is then folded in half and pressed firmly to seal.
For inside out sushi rolls where the rice is on the outside, line the mat with plastic wrap before adding the ingredients to prevent the rice from sticking to the mat. |
