An Italian beverage that is considered to be a lower quality brandy. Unlike the traditional wine making process, grappa is distilled from grape by-products that include the pomace, skin, stem, and seeds that are processed but not aged. This distillate becomes a clear liquid that is usually 40 to 50 percent alcohol by volume and may, at times be referred to as an eau de vie. However, in France, grappa is typically referred to as marc, while Germans call it testerbranntwein and Spain or Portugal will use the term aguardiente to describe it.
