A type of candy originally made in England where it is referred to as English Toffee. Also known as and spelled as "toffy" the traditional Toffee has a texture that may be hard and brittle or soft and chewy. This confection is typically produced by combining a mixture of sugar, water and butter that is boiled continuously at temperatures that range from 250° to over 300°F, checking it often to achieve the soft to brittle consistency desired. While it is boiling it may be flavored with various ingredients such as cream, chocolate, peppermint oil, orange oil and/or roasted nuts to enhance the flavor sweet and rich flavors. |
