| Directions | Preheat oven to 350 and grease and flour a tube or bundt pan. Heat applesauce and stir in baking soda until it foams. In a large bowl combine melted shortening and sugar, mix well. In a separate bowl, mix cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Add the dry ingredients along with the applesauce-soda blend to the shortening-sugar mixture. Stir vigorously. Add raisins and nuts to the mixture. Pour into your prepared pan and bake for 1 hour 15 minutes or until done. Do not overcook. Let the cake cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before gently releasing it onto a cooling rack. |
