| Directions |
- Grease and flour the bottom and sides of the cake pans. Preheat the oven to 350° F.
- Add the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt together in the mixing bowl and stir to combine.
- In a separate bowl, combine the egg, buttermilk, oil, coffee, and vanilla; whisk together.
- Pour the egg and buttermilk mixture in with the dry ingredients; mix just until evenly combined.
- Pour even amounts into each of the prepared cake pans.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick poked in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes and then remove from the pans and cool on a cooling rack.
- Once the cake is completely cooled, place one layer on a cake plate (or other large plate) and spread a layer of frosting on top. Our Fluffy White Boiled Frosting is a perfect match for this cake but you can use any of your favorite frostings.
- Place the second layer on top of the frosting, centering the top layer with the bottom.
- Spread the remaining frosting evenly over the top and sides of the cake.
- To decorate, make swirled peaks all around the sides and on top of the cake.
- Cut and serve!
