Directions
  • Mix together with pastry cutter.
  • Add 1 egg yolk, plus milk to make 2/3 cup.
  • Roll 1/2 of dough out to fit bottom of jelly roll pan.
  • Crumble two handfuls of cornflakes or wheaties on crust.
  • Add thick layer of thinly sliced apples.
  • Sprinkle 3/4 to 1 cup sugar over apples.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg on top.
  • Add thin slices of butter.
  • Roll out remaining dough for top crust.
  • Seal edges and brush with beaten egg whites.
  • Cut slits in top crust.
  • Bake at 375° F. for 1 hr.
  • While still warm, make a thin powdered sugar frosting using almond extract and spread on top.
  • Tip: For 9 inch apple pie, use Pillsbury pie crust found in refrigerator section.
