For this recipe the cucumbers are salted down to remove excess water. This keeps the water from diluting the salad. Peel and slice the cucumbers. Place in a large bowl and stir in the salt. Place a plate directly on the cucumbers to press them down, add a weight to the top of the plate, maybe a can of beans. The idea is to press the moisture out. My mother uses a rock. Let them rest like this for several hours in the refrigerator. Pour off the liquid. Do not rinse.
Add the onion
Add cream, enough to cover
Add vinegar to taste, about 1/4 cup
Pepper to taste
Some people use sour cream instead of the whole cream.
