| Directions | Cream the shortening and sugar together. Add the eggs and beat well. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking soda and whisk together. Combine the milk and vanilla together in a separate bowl. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed shortening, sugar, and egg mixture alternately with the milk and vanilla. Beat just until evenly mixed. Place 1/3 of the batter in to a separate bowl and then melt the square of chocolate and add that and the chopped walnuts to this batter. Spread this mixture on the bottom of the cake pan. Arrange the 9 double graham crackers on top of the layer in the pan. Add the chocolate chips to the remaining 2/3 of the batter. Spread this batter on top of the graham crackers. Bake at 375°F for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. |
