Baked Apples Recipe
Directions
  • Preheat oven to 350°. (If the oven is being shared with other dishes which require a different temperature, the apples will bake well at 325° - 375°. The time will vary somewhat.)
  • Scrub, but don't peel the apples (the skin helps them keep their shape and adds to the flavor - and the fiber.)
  • Using a small sharp knife, a melon baller, or a small spoon, work from the stem end to remove the core. Don't go through to the bottom; leave about 1/2 inch.
  • Using a sharp knife, cutting just through the skin make a cut around the 'equator,' and then make a series of cuts, 1/2" or less apart, from top to bottom all around the apple.
  • Put apples into a baking dish that will hold them snugly, or into individual ramikins.
  • Mix together the honey, butter, cinnamon and salt. Spoon into apple centers.
  • Add water to cover about 1/3 of the apples and bake until tender, 30 - 60 minutes. Time will vary with the size and variety of apple.
  • Serve warm or room temperature, topped if desired, with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
