- Peel and devein the shrimp; set aside.
- Heat the cooking oil to 375 degrees F.
- While the oil is heating, combine the hot sauce, milk, and buttermilk in a bowl; stir until well mixed.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper; gently stir to combine evenly.
- Dredge the prepared shrimp in the flour mixture. Shake off excess and then dip in the milk mixture; then dredge in the flour mixture again.
- Place coated shrimp in the heated oil. Do not overcrowd the shrimp when cooking. Fry in small batches.
- When shrimp are nicely browned, remove from oil and place on a paper towel lined platter to drain the excess oil.
- Serve these southern style fried shrimp with a simple side, such as sweet potato fries or your favorite rice dish.
