Directions
Combine beef, bay leaves, onions and water in a large pot. Bring to a boil. Skim off foam. Add carrots, celery, barley, salt and pepper; return to boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, 45 minutes.

-1 pound boneless, lean top round steak, trimmed of all visible fat and cut into 1 inch chunks
-1 - 2 bay leaves
-2 onions, chopped
-7 cups water
-3 carrots, chopped
-3 celery stalks, chopped,
-3/4 cup pearl barley (I use quick barley)
-1 1/2 teaspoons salt
-1/4 teaspoon pepper
