| Directions | In large pot, melt butter and olive oil. Sauté onions until softened and beginning to brown. Remove to a bowl and cover to keep warm. In a large bowl, combine ground meat. Soak bread in cold water, squeeze dry and crumble into meat. Add egg, salt, pepper, and allspice. Mix well. Add 3-4 T. water to moisten. Shape into small balls. Roll in flour. Brown meatballs on all sides in batches in pot. Add browned onions, cover and simmer for 1/2 hour. Add 1/2 cup water, stir contents of pot gently, cover and simmer another 1/2 hour. Great served with mashed potatoes - the onion gravy is yummy! |
