Also known as "goose-neck or goose barnacles", pecrebes are a shellfish that have the appearance of a goose with a long neck that extends out from a soft body. Attached to rocks that repeatedly become beaten by waves and changing tides, the pecrebes use an extension of their body to grasp onto the rough surface of the rocks adjacent to the water. At the upper part of the body a hard shell protects the top portion of the barnacle's body. This shellfish is considered to be a delicacy, since they exist in limited numbers along the west coast of the U.S. They provide a even textured meat with a flavor that is mild and lobster or crab-like in taste.
