A somewhat bitter, anise flavored liqueur, distilled from wormwood that is produced with a proof of 136 and an alcohol content of almost 70%. It is a drink that has been banned in many countries, being classified as a habitual stimulant. This liqueur has a green color that becomes a cloudy white when diluted as it is prepared for consumption. A typical procedure for dilution is to pour the absinthe over a sugar cube in a strainer and then drip water into the sugar strained solution, which turns the color from green to cloudy white.
