Also known as runner bean, snap bean, or string bean, green beans are long and slender, with green pods. When preparing, the cap is typically detached or snapped from the bean pod and it may then be broken in half or kept whole for cooking. They can be eaten raw or cooked to different degrees of tenderness and added to many different food dishes including soups, stews, and casseroles.
