Pieces of food, such as apple pieces, that are dipped into batter and deep-fried. Fritters are prepared by first making a batter to which the ingredients are added. The food immersed in the batter is stirred and fully coated before being removed to be dropped into boiling oil and deep-fried. Prior to placing the food in the batter, it is shaped into round little cakes, folded or shaped pastries, irregularly packed contents, or round and oblong ball shapes. Corn and crab Fritters are common types of Fritters available and prepared in many food stores. Other types of Fritters may include any made from fruit, meat, cheese, rice, potatoes, or vegetables.
