Thick and creamy in texture, Corn Chowder is a hearty and rich soup prepared like many other Chowders except with corn. In addition to the corn, other vegetables such as onions, potatoes, and celery, may be added to herbs, spices, and a creamy milk (or cream) base. At times, various types of chicken meat such as smoked chicken, is added to Corn Chowder to provide a meaty, and succulent flavor or texture. All Chowders are typically made with a larger proportion of solid ingredients than liquid ingredients which is true of Corn Chowder. Corn Chowders were originally made in farming regions during and after the annual fall harvest of the sweet corn. However, as the availability of corn became more prevalent, Corn Chowder began to appear in kitchens throughout the year in regions all around the world.
