A traditional wrapped food from Mexico consisting of a tortilla flatbread that is filled with meat, cheese, vegetables, refried beans, and salsa. The ingredients are placed as a top layer on the tortilla, which is then folded or wrapped around the ingredients that are served hot or cold. This type of taco may be referred to as a soft shell taco. The tortilla may also be baked and formed into a crispy curved shell, which is called a tostada that serves as a formed holder for ingredients that become what is known as a hard shell taco. Tacos can be served nicely as small appetizers or as a main meal.
