A Chinese appetizer that began as a traditional food served to celebrate the arrival of the Chinese New Year, which occurs during the spring season. Over the years, spring rolls and egg rolls have become the same item in many countries. However, the traditional spring rolls are typically encased in a lighter, more delicate pastry wrap and are smaller than egg rolls, but the size of spring rolls has also changed over the years, becoming larger and more like egg rolls in size.

Spring rolls are filled with minced vegetables, seafood, poultry, or meat, folded into a food wrapper made from dough or rice paper that is rolled after being folded and is then baked, deep fried, or steamed. They may also be served fresh with a prepared wrapper that is ready to eat after being filled with ingredients.
