Shaped to fit in a beverage shaker or tumbler, this type of strainer is used in home or commercial bar areas to keep chunks of fruit, larger pieces of pulp, ice, and other ingredients mixed in a beverage shaker from entering a glass as the mixed contents are poured. Typically made of stainless steel, a Bar Strainer may have a handle for ease of gripping that is connected to a strainer plate with 2 or 4 extended prongs that rest over the opening of the shaker or tumbler. In addition to the prongs, the strainer plate also has perforations and a spring that allow the mixture to be strained while the spring acts as both a strainer and a lid gripper to keep the strainer in place over the shaker opening. The springs on the strainer can be removed for ease of cleaning.
