A utensil that is designed to hold loose quantities of herbs, spices or teas to be used for adding various flavors to liquids. Available in several different sizes and shapes, a Herb Ball typically consists of a round container with a chain or flexible handle attached. When making base stocks, soups, teas, or other types of beverages and foods with a broth, the Herb or Tea Ball can be filled with various flavorings such as spices or herbs and placed in boiling liquids to steep the contents. This process is used to make tea or to flavor sauces and base stocks. When the flavoring process is finished the ball is removed and the contents are discarded. The Herb Ball may also be referred to as a Herb ball, an infusion ball or a tea strainer.
