A type of food introduced by the French population living in Canada that is considered to be a snack or junk food creation. A typical food menu referred to as Poutine may consist of a combination of cheese curds and warm french fries that are topped with a sauce that may be a tomato-based sauce, a barbecue sauce or gravy. There are many different variations of Poutine but when prepared, it is served hot. Some variations may use beef gravy, chicken gravy or different intensities of barbecue sauce from mild to hot. In addition, some versions of this food dish melt the cheese curds over the french fries and then add the sauce of choice, which could also be ketchup.
