A light to dark red apple with tints of green covering a very juicy flesh that provides a sweet, tangy (almost tart) flavor. The McIntosh makes a good eating and baking apple but when used in pies, a thickener may be necessary due to the juiciness of the apple. When storing, refrigerate McIntosh apples to keep for longer periods of time and handle them gently, since they bruise easily. This apple may also be referred to as a Macintosh or MacIntosh.
