Fried Green Tomatoes

As stated in their name, these are green tomatoes that are fried. The tomatoes are picked while they are still green and then cut to into 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick slices. They are cut fairly thick so that they do not fall apart while being cooked. They are then coated as suggested in their recipe and fried in hot cooking oil. They are cooked until nicely browned on each size and then placed on a paper towel lined plate so that the grease can drain. The fried green tomatoes make a nice side dish to accompany any meal. Ripe tomatoes can also be fried in the same manner but they will not hold up as nicely. The green tomatoes will also have a nice tangy flavor that the red tomatoes don't have and are a good way to enjoy the end of the season tomatoes that may not ripen in time.
