An Asian snack made by coating dried peas with the sharp, hot flavored condiment known as "wasabi" that is one of the most important seasonings in Japanese cooking. A species of fresh peas that are large in size are dried and the inner meat is removed to create a hollowed out circular, but dimpled snacking item. A powdered form of wasabi is mixed with water to produce a thick paste-like solution that is then spread over the hollow green pea and allowed to dry into a hardened coating. The wasabi pea provides a spicy hot food that can be eaten out of hand as an appetizer or served as a spicy ingredient with various foods. Wasabi is also known as Japanese horseradish.
