Growing as a beefsteak-shaped tomato with vertical ribs, this variety is a larger heirloom tomato that typically becomes a pound or more in size. With an outer skin that ranges in color from pinkish red to purple, the tomato has a crimson red inner pulp containing few seeds, providing a smooth, rich flavor. It is a tomato that matures early in the season. Similar to varieties such as the Brandywine or Cherokee Purple, the Pruden's Purple can be served in salads or on sandwiches as a fresh tomato, used as a main ingredient for salsas, and used for canning or drying.
