Derived from the Italian word meaning nude, this food item is a small dumpling that is common to Florence region of Italy. Made into a dough blended with fresh ricotta and pecorino Romano cheese that are mixed with flour and seasonings, the small Gnudi is made into a little round ball that is then cooked in boiling water. When finished cooking in 8 to 10 minutes, the Gnudi is then combined with a sauce that is reheated with the Gnudi to allow the flavors to blend and the Gnudi to be coated with the sauce. When served, Gnudi is often topped with herbs and prosciutto as well as shavings of cheese such as Pecorino.
