A type of syrup made from a combination of sugar and water that is cooked over a low to medium heat setting while stirring the contents until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is clear. After blending the water and sugar, the mixture is then boiled for approximately one minute. The most common ratio used to make this syrup is equal parts of both sugar and water. However, some prefer to make a syrup with what is considered to be thicker or thinner texture, using less sugar to make a thinner version. Three parts water to one part sugar will produce a thin syrup, while one part water to one part sugar will produce a thick syrup. Simple syrup is used for making many candies but is also, used to glaze baked goods, as an added ingredient to frostings and it is used in preserving fruit. Another name for Simple Syrup is "sugar syrup."
