Haralson apples

How do I know when I can pick them. Everyone says they are 2 weeks early this year. Some tell me I need to wait for a frost. The crows are eating them and I don't want to share any more!!!! Can I pick them now? They are tart and crispy, not sweet at all. Good size apple. Thanks

Haralson apples are a tart apple so they aren't going to get sweet. I would say if they are medium size and red in color that you should go ahead and pick them. Don't let the crows get them all!

Cooking Oils

Aren't Olive, Canola, Sunflower, etc., all different kinds of "vegetable" oils? My daughter has a recipe that calls for "vegetable oil" and is concerned that the oils we have in the cupboard (above) are unacceptable.
